National Recognition: City of Little Rock
At this year's National Workers' Compensation and Disability Conference in Chicago, two public sector programs were singled out for excellence in the Theodore Roosevelt Workers' Compensation Awards. The conference and the November issue of Risk and Insurance recognized the city of Little Rock for exceeding its comp benchmarks by anywhere from 39% to 70% from 1999 to 2003. Jim Bradshaw, Risk Manager for the City of Little Rock, noted that "in the early 1990s, the average annual cost of the workers' comp program was more than $1.5 million. This year [2005] the budget for the program is around $968,000. Some of the savings categories noted were: average cost per claim, loss costs per $100 of payroll, and total direct losses.
