Welcome to the Arkansas Chapter of ASSE!
Welcome to the home page of the Arkansas Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE). The chapter provides educational and networking opportunities to safety, health, and environmental professionals throughout the state.
ASSE was founded in 1911 and is the worlds largest and oldest professional safety organization. ASSE's mission is to promote the advancement of the safety profession and foster technical, scientific, management and ethical knowledge to all safety practitioners.
Paul Hansen Retirement
Paul has served as Arkansas Area Director of OSHA for 19 years. June 23rd Paul announced his retirement. He has spoken to more safety and HR groups than I can count, providing an education about OSHA Standards and injury prevention. Paul has been cooperative and helpful to all who asked, although he has used enforcement, when necessary, to protect Arkansas workers. During Paul's tenure injuries in Arkansas have declined. His calm gentle approach will be missed by all who know Paul.
Due to his service to the safety community, I am pleased to note that Paul has accepted a position with the Arkansas Workers' Compensation Commission. I am sure he will continue to be an asset to Arkansas injury prevention efforts.
If you see Paul, please thank him for his years of service to us!

From The Outgoing President
Thank you all for allowing me to serve as your President this year. There were many key players working together that made 2007-08 a successful year for the Arkansas ASSE Chapter. The officers, committees, and dedicated individual members accomplished many milestones for the chapter. We are fortunate to have many great organizations and individuals that represent the values of our shared profession and provide for a strong chapter of the ASSE.
With the continued support of the OSHA Little Rock Office, we signed an OSHA Alliance to promote safety professional development programs in the state. Area Director Paul Hansen and his staff have been outstanding to work with over the past many years. Paul has been a wonderful colleague and mentor and I wish him the best in his retirement.
We partnered with the Arkansas chapter of AIHA and AWCC to sponsor OSHA update seminars. Clark, Judy and the staff at ADOL continue to serve as good friends of the chapter by lending support and participating at the annual conferences.
The first student section for the chapter was established with the Northwest Arkansas Community College NWACC OSHA/EPA and Environmental Regulatory Science programs. Jammie Bagget serves as the liaison to NWACC and has done a remarkable job getting the student section established.
It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as chapter president and I pledge my continued support and dedication to the chapter and the Arkansas safety community. I know that with everyone's support and involvement, the chapter leadership can continue to do great things as a professional organization.
Be Safe, and remember that what we do as safety professionals makes a difference in peoples lives.
